H2H Roundup – Do you think Resident Evil 6 shold be an Action Game?

Welcome to Head2Head Roundup. This short article is posted a week after an initial Made2Game Head2Head argument, pulling together the best comments and thoughts from around the web concerning the topic argued in the previous Head2Head.

Well well well. Last week Mick and James squared off, asking themselves 'should Resident Evil 6 be an action game?' Considering Capcom's latest bears a stronger comparison to a blockbuster blamfest than a slow paced, item gathering horror - even more so than Resident Evil 4 and 5 – the two set up their tents and preached their canvas.

If you missed it you can catch up with the Head2Head over Resident Evil 6 as an action game by clicking here.

But what did you think? Well public opinion seems split, although the vocal majority seem more inclined to fight James' corner for classic horror. So while some are accepting of the series direction, claiming that it's been shuffling towards this outrageous action bent with each instalment since Resident Evil4, more of you continue to bemoan what beefcake Chris, modern gaming's penchant for explosions, and Sheva, bloody, Alomar have wrought upon one of gaming's most treasured establishments.

The best responses follow. Come back next week for a new Head2Head about the 3DS, and 3D gaming in general...

Its not classic resident evil but theres something for everyone by the looks of things. The again i liked Operation Raccoon City so my opinion is worthless. Shame on me!

I think Resi has been going down the action path for a long time now since Resi4. Personally I would much prefer the tank controls and old style Resi over this action any day.

I think it should be a point and click... I heard it's the future of immersive gaming :o #ResidentEvil6

Resi 6 zombie attack!

I guess if you wanted to do movie comparisons Resident Evil was Dawn of the Dead. Some people cling to it like it was the pinnacle of zombie cinema. A genre which shouldn't be allowed to evolve past the strict ground rules laid down by George A. Romero. Resi 6 is the Zack Snyder remake; big, loud, fast and sexy. Kids who are sexting each other don't want the boring old original they want the crass, shiny new one. Capcom knows this and will make a mint off it.

No, it should be 80% horror 20% action

I want the horror/puzzle solving like it once was. Now the best I can get is the SAW games, but it still ain't RE!

I really miss the old school horror games like Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Parasite Eve. Its a shame that many of these titles lost their roots in the survival horror genre. Oh well at least theres Dead Space that while its very action based its still better at survival horror than the resident Evil franchise.

Action denotes dynamism – quick movement, plenty of ammo – and this runs against the mechanics of the original titles. It's been written many times before, but one of the main qualities of Resi 1 and 2 was the sense of restriction: the characters were difficult to control, employing a weird turning mechanism that made it tough to avoid undead lunges. There was also a chronic paucity of ammo, meaning that every shot had to count. As a result, the stress, the sense of expectation, was often unbearable.

It should be survival horror but it will be action. :( (sad face added for dramatic effect -M2G)

Yeah, Resident Evil 2 is still fuckin incredible to this day, and while RE4 "killed " Resident Evil... it's still an awesome game. 5 was cool , Operation Raccoon City sucks hard, but 6 looks epic

Thanks to those who took five seconds to add to the argument but it's never too late to have your say, sound off in the comments now!
