Be selective with the Borderlands 2 Weapons Trailers

Apparently, Borderlands 2 features guns. Lots of guns. And not only do these guns come in different sizes, shapes and colours as with your run-of-the-mill FPS – but they also come in different brands.

In the totalitarian, dystopian universe of Gearbox’s Borderlands, guns are big business, and anyone mad enough to go ‘prospecting’ on Pandora better be packing enough heat to drop a bullymong at fifty paces or their panhandling days are going to be seriously short-lived.

Thankfully, the various friendly neighbourhood weapon manufacturers of the future are on hand to cater to your every psychotic need, and they advertise their wares just like anybody else. Recently, Gearbox have been uploading these short virals to the ‘net, so that fans can get to know a little about their favourite returning brands before Borderlands 2 hits shelves in September.

In the interest (and absence) of ‘serious’ games journalism, we decided to bring the first of these three virals together into one article, to make it that little bit easier for you to go shopping for head-poppers – especially as the original Borderlands’ ’87 bazillion guns’ just got ‘bazillioner’. Enjoy…

First of all, Tediore guns are perfect for players who like to get stuck in and don’t have time to screw around. The fast reload time and no-nonsense design make them ideal for the nutjob on the go – or the thumbless, apparently.

Those who prefer their guns that little bit more ‘sci-fi’, however, might be more impressed by Maliwan weapons. Not only do they look like something the Curiosity dug up on Mars, but their attacks are elemental. Fire, lightning and acid-based rounds allow you to mix it up on the battlefield, bypassing pesky inconveniences like body armour and funeral costs.

And finally, Russian manufacturer Vladof produces the weapons with the highest fire rate around, meaning that if you want to annihilate hordes of scags on the move, there’s only one brand to turn to. Perfect for spray and pray cowboys, and those who don’t like having to lug around reams of ammo. With a Vladof gun, it won’t last long enough to be a problem.

So there you go – the first three of Borderlands 2’s unique weapon manufacturers. Gearbox have taken what made you fall so deeply in love with the first game and amplified it to the power of awesome to bring you the biggest, most comprehensive arsenal ever featured in a shooter. We personally can’t wait to get our hands around the grip of a Maliwan and start spraying acid in the face of the nearest tattooed psycho-bandit – but which brand are you most looking forward to?
