Gaming Follow Friday # 7 - Star Wars: The Old Republic

Follow Friday is that point at the end of every week when Made2Game takes time out of its really busy schedule of eating cheese toasties and shouting at pigeons to point your virtual heads in the direction of the best Twitter accounts to follow surrounding the biggest games. With The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Skyrim, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Assassin's Creed: Revelations all out that leaves but one major  video game release for the calender of 2011, the long overdue Star Wars: The Old Republic.

The Old Republic has been yeeeeears in the making. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II was released back in 2004 but that wasn't even a Bioware project - it was handled by Obsidian, who delivered last year's Fallout: New Vegas and this year's Dungeon Siege III - meaning that The Old Republic is the first Star Wars release from BioWare since 2003.

But what's arguably more significant is that this is BioWare's first ever MMORPG release. Considering their celebrity status within the realms of the traditional single-player, story-driven RPG it will be extremely interesting to see just how well they can apply their solo craft to a world populated by mindless grind drones and gold farmers. Sorry, populated by people.

Anyway, being an MMO means that Star Wars: The Old Republic is an experience best shared, and what better way to brag about killing 100 womp rats or that you've changing the colour of your lightsaber to match Luke's in the 105th scene of the Return of the Jedi DVD re-release, than through the wonderful social medium of Twitter.
