The Made2Game Instant Review: The Last Of Us

Unless it’s choc full of actual proper gameplay footage taken from a wide variety of levels, only a fool would judge a game by its announcement trailer.

Colour us foolish, then, because that’s exactly what we like to do in our regular Made2Game Instant Review feature. Actually, we prefer there not to be any trailer at all because that makes it all the more unfair. Sadly we kind of missed the boat with The Last Of Us. We should really have judged it on last week’s The Last Of Us teaser trailer, which featured nothing but some film of an ant infected with a fungal virus, and the single screenshot of some leaves released alongside it. Ho hum.

No matter, because while The Last Of Us trailer released on Saturday did indeed show off the in-game engine, it wasn’t in-game footage. Don’t be fooled by the ‘captured directly from a PlayStation 3’ message at the start of the trailer. Yes, that is of course true, but it doesn’t take a judgemental fool to see that it’s not actually in-game, and it’s not like The Last Of Us developer Naughty Dog were saying it was.

Anyway, here’s that The Last Of Us trailer:

So, high speed ant people then? Nice! Well, incredibly silly. You wouldn’t catch Nathan Drake fighting high speed ant people.

What we can deduce from the The Last Of Us trailer is that there’ll be beard-shaving mini-games aplenty and for the majority of the game you’ll be occupied with seeking out Blu-Ray copies of I Am Legend. Right? Right.
