Hitman Absolution trailer emerges from the shadows

After weeks of rumours and leaked screenshots, Square-Enix finally confirm Hitman Absolution, the fifth Hitman game in the series. Check out the (very brief) Hitman Absolution announcement trailer.
Here’s your Hitman Absolution trailer, then. Make sure you don’t sneeze or look away after pressing play because there’s not a lot to be seen...
Yup, that’ll be about 7 seconds of Agent 47 screwing a silencer on to his pistol and a snake wrapping itself around one of his signature Ballers. Not even Made2Game can conjour much gameplay speculation from that! However, the name ‘Absolution’ and some details in the press release do tell us a few things. The official blurb suggests that rather than fulfilling contracts for The International Contracts Agency (if indeed Diana successfully got it going again after Bloody Money), Agent 47 will “embark on a personal journey through a corrupt and twisted world, in his search for the truth." The dictionary.com definition of absolution: “act of absolving; a freeing from blame or guilt; release from consequences, obligations, or penalties."
As you may recall from the end of Hitman: Blood Money, one of the endings saw Agent 47 massacre everyone present at his ‘funeral’, including a priest and a reporter. Not so nice of you, baldy. Presumably he feels a bit bad about all this and wants to make amends, hence the ‘Absolution of the title.’ We’ll see.
Aside from some ‘it’s going to the familiar Hitman gameplay but there’ll be loads of new Hitman gameplay’ puff in the press release, along with news that it’s been built from the ground up using a bespoke game engine developed in-house, that’s about your lot on the Hitman Absolution details-front.
The above barcode that appears in the trailer suggests we’ll have to wait for E3 to know more. The date format may be arse about face but 07/06/11 is the opening day of the show. We’re not sure what the ‘0401’ bit of the code relates to. Any suggestions? We’re struggling to find a potential Hitman Absolution release date hidden away in that. UPDATE: This about the bar code from Game Informer. Okaaaaaay. Someone's having a little joke...
More on Hitman Absolution later in the week, when we look at what we’d like to see from the game.
