The long-rumoured Assassin’s Creed Vita title has been confirmed by Ubisoft at their E3 2012 press conference. Taking place in a new location, it will run concurrently with Assassin's Creed III and feature the series' first female protagonist.

Set in Louisiana in 1765, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation will feature a whole new protagonist in the form of Aveline, a female member of the Brotherhood. New assassin, new look, new city, Liberation is designed exclusively for the Playstation Vita and will utilise the unique touch and motion controls to “deliver an immersive handheld Assassin’s Creed experience”.
Also, people who buy Liberation for the Vita and Assassin’s Creed III for the PS3 will unlock special, exclusive content for both titles. A unique multiplayer mode is promised, most likely utilising the Vita’s ad-hoc and Near facilities.
We’re not sure how we feel yet about the new protagonist – particularly as she’s no descendant of Desmond. How will her story affect the overall arc? Is her tale a standalone adventure or woven into Connor’s battle in ACIII? Time will tell. In the meantime, here are not one, but two, teaser trailers to give you a glimpse of exactly what to expect from the gameplay and Aveline herself.
Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation will launch on October 30th. For more info, visit the official site.
