'Call of Duty Online' confirmed

Activision's desire to turn the Call of Duty into a WoW-style subscription service has been confirmed with the announcement of new studio. The studio, 'Beachhead', will be creating a "digital platform" for the shooter, Activision boss Bobby Kotick said in a call with investors last night. It was a busy night for Activision as they also axed True Crime, Guitar Hero, DJ Hero and Tony Hawk for 2011. There were precious few details, although plenty of big talk: “Beachhead will create the best-in-class online community, exclusive content, and a suite of services to supercharge the online gaming experience like never before. The platform will support in-game integration and bring online experiences and console play together for the first time. The platform has been in development for over a year and we’re very excited about the increased value we can bring to the community." He ended by promising more details soon.
