Microsoft makes $1bn from Xbox Live last year

It seems that Microsoft have made a pretty penny from their Live service last year if a report in Bloomberg is to believed. The report states that "about half" of the 25 Million users on Xbox Live paid for the Annual Gold Membership which made a massive $600 Million for the company's last fiscal year which ended on the 30th of June. For the first time, downloaded content bought from the Marketplace topped revenue from the Gold Subscription, according to Xbox COO, Dennis Durkin. Suggesting that over $1.2 Billion was made from this service last year. When this was compared to last year we can see a very large increase as Bloomberg's report tells that $800 Million was made the year before last. Matt Rosoff, an Analyst at Directions on Microsoft said of the figure, "Xbox Live has helped sell a lot of consoles and created a lot of loyalty. Everyone has been talking about Microsoft's inability to innovate, but this is a pretty good example where they have innovated. They timed it just right with this one." Source: CVG
