No voice control for Kinect at launch [Update]
Update: Microsoft's just confirmed Kinect will have voice control at launch, despite our earlier report.
“Voice control is an exciting part of the Kinect for Xbox 360 controller-free experience and we can confirm that it will be available at launch in November 2010,” said statement.
“Only on Xbox 360 will you be able to navigate the Kinect Hub using your voice to control your movies, TV Shows and music. We do not have additional details to share about local voice availability at this time.”
So there we go.
Original: Microsoft has said Kinect will not include any voice control or video chat functionality at launch, but will instead receive this at a later date.
The company confirmed the news to
MCV during Gamescom, with marketing manager for Xbox Live EMEA Robin Burrowes saying , “we will be announcing when voice control will be turned on in due course”.
Both of these functions seem to be a key part of Microsoft's promotion of the device, so it seems strange they will not be present at launch.
Kinect will launch in the UK on November 10th.
